Sermon Discussion Questions

Highlight: What did the passage/message say?

  1. How would you summarize the passage in your own words?  Hint: this passage is a summary of the book of Galatians.

  2. As you read the passage or listened to the message, were there any words, phrases, or themes that felt significant or impactful to you? If so, what were they, and why did they stand out?

Explain: What does the passage mean?

  1. What is the “mind” that all followers of Jesus should share? Can people outside of Christ share this mind? Why or why not?

  2. When Christ emptied Himself, does that mean He ceased to be God? Why is this an important thing to discuss?

Apply: How does the passage change my life?

  1. Read verse 4. What are some practical examples of this playing out in your life?

  2. What can you set your mind on to lead your heart to more sacrificially love Christ and others this week?

Respond: How do I respond to what God has said?

  • Consider what it means that every knee will bow to Christ. Praise Him for His Lordship over all things and over your life.

  • Confess where you have not submitted your life to the Lordship of Christ.

  • Ask God to transform your heart to be more sacrificially generous in response to who Christ is and what He’s done for you.
