Sermon Discussion Questions

Main Idea: Because we are free, we must live by faith in Christ and not our works — so that we may receive the promises of God.

Scripture Reference = Galatians 4:21-31

Highlight: What did the passage/message say?

  1. How would you summarize the passage in your own words?

  2. As you read the passage or listened to the message, were there any words, phrases, or themes that felt significant or impactful to you? If so, what were they, and why did they stand out?

Explain: What does the passage mean?

  1. Why does Hagar represent us being slaves to the law? What was wrong with how Abraham and Sarah initially responded to their barrenness?

  2. What is the inheritance we receive as God’s children? How do we receive this inheritance?

Apply: How does the passage change my life?

  1. In what ways do we try to take things into our own hands instead of trusting God? How can we take steps to walk with faith in God’s promises?

  2. Are you receiving any kind of persecution for being a follower of Jesus (as Isaac did)? If so, how should we respond and react when that happens? How can we respond to opposition faithfully?

Respond: How do I respond to what God has said?

  • Praise God that He has adopted us as His children and promised us a great inheritance.

  • Ask God to help you trust His promises and walk faithfully, even amidst opposition and persecution.
